The concern is to transfer one billion euros to the treasury — this decision was made following an investigation conducted by the Braunschweig prosecutor's office. At the same time, Volkswagen stated that they do not intend to contest the imposed sanctions.
"We have studied the situation in detail and decided to agree with the imposed fine, refusing to appeal. Thus, the company admits guilt in connection with 'dieselgate' and takes another significant step in resolving this issue," the automaker's official statement notes.
The company clarified the structure of the payment: the fine itself amounts to 5 million euros, and the remaining 995 million euros are payments to compensate for profits obtained illegally.
