The prestigious World Car of the Year award was won by the Volvo XC60 crossover. For the Swedish brand, this was the first victory in this competition. In addition, it is worth noting that the title of European "Car of the Year" also went to a Volvo model — the compact XC40 crossover.
In the design category, the Range Rover Velar took first place. In the luxury segment, the jury chose the Audi A8. Among sports cars, the BMW M5 was the best. The Volkswagen Polo received an award as the optimal city car, and the Nissan Leaf became the winner in the "ecological" nomination.
A year earlier, the title "World Car of the Year" went to the Jaguar F-Pace crossover, which also received a design award.
