Recently, diesel engines are increasingly coming under the spotlight of environmentalists and government bodies. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution annually causes the death of more than three million people worldwide. Diesels aggravate the situation by emitting microscopic particulate matter and nitrogen oxides into the air. Such tiny particles can penetrate the lungs when breathing and cause deadly cardiovascular diseases.

Nitrogen oxides, in turn, increase the ozone content in the air, which can lead to breathing difficulties even for people who have not previously faced such problems.

Representatives of four cities also stated that they plan to introduce special preferences for those who use environmentally friendly transport or bicycles. In addition, the authorities of Paris, Madrid, Mexico City, and Athens intend to expand zones designated exclusively for pedestrians.
