The price of such a procedure can reach up to 8200 euros. Gercarn Sahota, the owner of a premium car wash, claims that the process includes a five-stage polishing and grinding of the entire car surface both outside and inside. In his work, he uses a computer microscope, which is usually used by forensic experts. This device allows him to detect microscopic defects in the paintwork that are invisible to the naked eye.
Sahota started his journey in this business five years ago with an ordinary car wash of a neighbor's car using improvised means — a bucket and a sponge. After completing his studies at the University of Birmingham, he approached a local Aston Martin dealer asking to hire him as a car washer. The dealer agreed without much enthusiasm, but the quality of his work impressed him so much that he offered Sahota a permanent collaboration. Later, the entrepreneur opened his own company, Elite Detailing. He still works independently and only recently expanded the business by opening a second branch in Worcester.
During this time, he had the opportunity to service many exotic cars, including Lamborghini, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, and Ferrari. A particular honor was washing a McLaren F1 GTR — one of the most expensive cars in the world, valued at 3 million pounds sterling.
The services of this car wash are used by famous personalities. Sahota keeps client names secret, but it is known that the famous lawyer Nick Freeman regularly entrusts his Aston Martin DBS Volante to the care of this establishment. The client list also includes football players, musicians, actors, and financial workers.
Despite his reputation, Sahota admits that he still enjoys washing the cars of his neighbors and father for free, as this activity brings him real pleasure. At thirty years old, he lives in Derbyshire with his parents, who are proud of his achievements. For his work, it was enough for him to convert a two-car garage. He decorated the space in the spirit of Formula 1, having previously consulted with specialists about the choice of materials for the walls and floor so that the surface better shows dirt on the car.
Opening such a car wash, in his opinion, was the right decision. Owners of luxury cars expect a special approach to their property. Sahota believes: if a person is ready to pay more than 500,000 euros for a car, then a few thousand for its maintenance is an insignificant amount.
The first expensive car entrusted to Gercarn Sahota was a Ferrari Enzo — it was left for a whole week. He recalls that during those days when he tried to sleep, a red Ferrari constantly stood before his eyes, which needed to be brought to a perfect shine.
Even the most expensive wash begins with a classic procedure: the car is washed with a sponge and soapy water, the temperature of which can reach 120°C depending on the type of paintwork. The car must be cleaned of any dirt and dust, otherwise scratches will appear.
"I always strive for perfection. I like cleaning a car because I remember what it was like before it was covered with a layer of dust. Returning the car to its former shine is a huge pleasure," says the owner of the expensive car wash. Having spent hundreds of hours hand-washing, he uses a microscope to study stains and scratches, which he then eliminates with polishes and waxes, applying them in several layers to obtain a perfectly even coating over the entire body surface.
He also shares his recommendations for proper car care:
- Use warm soapy water with pH-neutral shampoo in one bucket and clean water in another.
- Use a sheepskin mitt — it handles dirt better than regular sponges.
- Always wash the car from top to bottom.
- Use different sponges for the body and wheels.
- Do not clean wheels with acid- or alkali-based compounds, as well as silicone products, to avoid stains.
- Before starting to wash, check the cleaning agents for dirt.
- Dry the body thoroughly to avoid streaks.
