American expert Chris Pyle has named the models worth paying attention to in his ranking of reliable hybrids for 2025: Kia Sportage, Hyundai Sonata, Honda Accord, Toyota Corolla, Camry, Prius, as well as Kia Niro and Hyundai Elantra. These cars demonstrate decent fuel efficiency and have a relatively moderate price — most of them cost less than 30 thousand dollars, which is approximately 1.2 million hryvnias.
However, the main problem with hybrids remains their batteries. Replacing the battery can cost from 4 to 10 thousand dollars (160–400 thousand hryvnias). Therefore, Pyle advises setting aside at least 50 dollars monthly into a "reserve fund" even before purchasing the car. Without such preparation, a breakdown can become a serious financial blow.
Another point is the loss of value. The expert warns: you should not buy a car that loses a fifth of its price already in the first year. In addition, with age, the battery gradually loses its capacity, the driving range decreases, and fuel savings become less noticeable.
The conclusion is simple: a hybrid is a good choice for those who plan to drive the car for several years and are ready to regularly set aside money for maintenance. But those who aim for long-term operation without unnecessary risks should carefully weigh all the advantages and disadvantages.
