While the automotive industry as a whole shows a decline, the electric vehicle market remains the only one showing growth. Analysts predict that this activity will continue at least until the end of the year. The main factor behind the hype is the return of VAT on car imports from 2026, which could increase the price of an electric car by 20–30%. That is why many Ukrainians are trying to buy a car under the current conditions.
In June, as before, imported used cars took the largest share of the market — 53.3% of the total, amounting to 4,792 units. Domestic resales accounted for 30.4% (2,735 cars). At the same time, the share of new electric vehicles turned out to be unexpectedly high: 16.2%, or 1,458 cars, which became an absolute record for the Ukrainian market.
The dynamics look quite telling: compared to May, imports of used cars decreased by 2.8%, domestic resales by 7.6%, while sales of new electric vehicles jumped by almost 12%. This indicates not only a strengthening of trust in electric transport but also that the buyer is gradually changing: instead of cheap options, more and more people are choosing brand new cars.
By the end of June, the total number of electric vehicles in the country reached 171.1 thousand units. Of these, passenger cars — 166.4 thousand, trucks — 3.6 thousand, electric buses — 8, and motorcycles — over a thousand.
Despite the fact that two bills on extending the benefits after 2025 have been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, the head of the financial committee, Danylo Hetmantsev, states that the benefits will be in effect exclusively until December 31, 2025.
