The study revealed a key insight – namely, understanding which car model choice carries the highest and lowest chance of getting a "wrecked" example.

The basis of carVertical's work was reports on 1 million cars. It included data collected from a number of EU countries (Poland, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Latvia, Italy, Germany, France, Lithuania), as well as Serbia, Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus. Here are the results.

Cars after accidents

In first place for damage after an accident were Lexus cars (48.1% of damaged cars out of the total). The study authors note that owners of such cars often overestimate their driving skills, which often leads to road incidents. For the same reason, Jaguar (44.1%) and BMW (42.2%) made it into the anti-rating. However, there is also sad statistics for more "calm" brands – Subaru (47.5%) and… Dacia (40.8%). In the case of Dacia, there is also an explanation – cars of this brand are often frankly not spared, as they are used as ordinary workhorses.

Top models most often found after accidents:

  1. Lexus: GS, CT, NX;
  2. Subaru: Forester, Legacy, Outback;
  3. Jaguar: XF, XJ, XE;
  4. BMW: 3-Series, 5-Series, X5;
  5. Dacia: Sandero, Duster, Logan.

The smallest number of damaged cars was found among models of FIAT, Citroen, Peugeot, Opel, and Nissan brands. However, even here the percentage of "wrecks" is quite high – 28.3%, 30.2%, 31.1%, 31.8%, 32.1% respectively.

Separately, carVertical also compiled a ranking of countries with the highest number of damaged cars. Surprisingly, Ukraine also made it into this ranking:

  1. Poland: 44.0%;
  2. Lithuania: 43.1%;
  3. Slovakia: 41.9%;
  4. Czech Republic: 38.3%;
  5. Hungary: 38.2%;
  6. Romania: 37.7%;
  7. Croatia: 35.1%;
  8. Latvia: 33.6%;
  9. Ukraine: 31.6%;
  10. Russia: 29.1%.

However, experts note that not all markets have online data on car history, so insurance companies do not always have significant information about accidents and sustained damage.
