The fact is that Germany is the largest automobile market in Europe, and any changes there can directly affect Ukraine. German media report that recently a paradoxical situation has developed in their market: sales of new electric cars are growing rapidly, but in the secondary market the opposite picture is observed – “dirty” cars are now in trend.

The fact is that the average German buyer is actually far from the concept of electric vehicles. Moreover, despite various subsidies and benefits, buying a new electric car is an expensive pleasure for a resident of Germany. In addition, we should not forget about the so-called economic anxiety caused by the coronavirus pandemic. In other words, the lion's share of Germans are not ready to empty their pockets or even take out a loan to purchase a “green” car – currently consumers are interested in simple, economical solutions for long trips, which are used diesel cars.

The numbers also confirm this: according to the German government, over the past month, demand for used cars in the country has increased 4.5 times! At the same time, focus.de reports that interest in diesel cars on the Internet has grown by 19%; the popular car sales platform mobile.de also records this trend – along with diesels, according to its data, an increase in popularity is observed among mid-size cars in general and in the segment of… sports cars.

High demand, of course, also affects price growth. On average, the cost of used cars in Germany has increased by 13% compared to June 2020.
