As the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper reports, citing German automotive expert and financier Ferdinand Dudenhoeffer, in January and February of this year, 1.52 million cars were sold in Europe, while in China – 3.96 million cars. For comparison, a year ago over the same period, 1.99 million cars were sold in Europe, and only 1.6 million in China.

The previous two months were record-breaking for China – never before had such a number of cars been sold in this country. According to Ferdinand Dudenhoeffer, this is a clear sign that China has overcome the coronavirus and the economic consequences that followed, while Europe is still in a very deep crisis.

Abendblatt notes that in Germany alone, in January 2021, a quarter fewer cars were sold than in the same period last year. Namely, about 364,000 cars compared to 486,000 cars in the previous year.

Other Western European countries suffered even more. In Portugal and Spain, new car sales fell by about 46%, in Denmark – by 40%. Among EU countries, Ireland suffered the least – its market fell by 11%.

However, there were exceptions. For instance, Norway became the only Western European country to increase car sales – up 5% compared to the same period last year.

Earlier, AvtoPortal wrote that sales of the car that became the best car in Europe in 2020 are starting in Ukraine.
