As Automotive News Europe reports, citing the head of sales at the Volkswagen Group, Christian Dahlheim, Skoda was previously seen as a competitor to Dacia, but now the company sees much more serious potential in it. In other words, the brand will no longer be perceived as budget. Moreover, Volkswagen is convinced that it is Skoda that has the greatest growth potential among all the group's brands.
The Czech manufacturer has been part of VW since the nineties, and during this time it has made significant progress in all directions. The cars have become noticeably more refined, the list of their options has expanded, but they still remain more affordable in price than similar models from Volkswagen itself.
The plans are to maintain the current price-quality ratio. The group expects that with this approach, the brand from Mlada Boleslav will be able to compete worthily with Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Opel.
By the way, as part of this strategy, Volkswagen has decided to abandon the legendary Passat model - its production will end in 2024. With this step, the German group intends to stimulate sales of the Skoda Superb, which belongs to the same class and, accordingly, is an internal rival to the Passat.
