This reduction is explained by several reasons at once, including the adjustment of tax rules for transport in a number of EU countries (due to which part of the registrations was postponed to December 2019), the deterioration of the global economic situation and buyer uncertainty.
The largest decline was recorded in Germany — minus 10.8%. Next come Italy (-8.8%), Spain (-6.0%) and France (-2.7%).
In terms of the number of registrations of new passenger cars, Germany again retained the lead — 239,943 cars.
The second position was taken by France: there in February, 167,782 cars were registered.
The top three is closed by Italy with an indicator of 162,793 new passenger cars.
Among European manufacturers, the first line, as usual, was taken by VW Group: over the month, the concern sold 240,115 cars in the EU markets, which is 5.3% less than in February last year.
In second place is PSA Group with a volume of 168,737 sold cars, which lost 8.9% compared to last year's result.
The third indicator is for RENAULT Group — 100,261 units, which corresponds to a drop of 14.3%.
According to the results of the first two months of 2020, the total number of registrations of new cars in the European Union turned out to be 7.4% lower than in the same period a year earlier. At the same time, all four key EU markets showed a decline in demand: Germany (-9.0%), France (-7.8%), Italy (-7.3%) and Spain (-6.8%).
