The Koreans decided to abandon a public event due to the coronavirus epidemic. For now, Hyundai has presented the version of the car for the USA, however, most likely, modifications for other countries will not differ from it.

The model is built on a new platform, which allowed making the car longer and wider than its predecessor. Thus, the length of the Elantra is now 4676 mm (+56 mm), width — 1826 mm (+25 mm), and height — 1414 mm (-20 millimeters). The wheelbase size is 2720 mm (+20 millimeters). The company claims that thanks to these parameters, it was possible to significantly increase the space inside the cabin.
The next-generation Elantra received an enlarged radiator grille and a more sloping roofline. Now the car can be positioned not as a sedan, but as a four-door coupe. The car is also equipped with new optics, different bumpers, and 15-, 16-, and 17-inch wheel options.

Already in the base versions, the interior of the new model features a digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch display, and a multimedia system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims received two 10.25-inch screens. The driver has access to an emergency braking system, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, driver attention monitoring, a rearview camera, and an intelligent headlight control system. Following the new Sonata, the car received a digital key that allows remote control of some vehicle systems via a smartphone.
The Elantra's engine lineup includes a 2.0-liter gasoline unit. The power of the unit is 150 hp and 180 N·m of torque. The engine works in conjunction with an IVT continuously variable transmission.

In addition, the new model for the first time received a hybrid version. The powertrain includes a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The total power of the hybrid Elantra is 141 horsepower. In the future, the model may get a "hot" N modification. According to unofficial data, such a car could get a 275-horsepower turbocharged engine.
Serial production of the new model will start this fall. Global sales of the next-generation Elantra are expected in the fourth quarter of 2020.
