As Automotive News reports, citing a statement by the head of the Japanese brand, Osamu Masuko, the future new model will be based on one of Mitsubishi's microcars, the so-called "kei cars," with an engine displacement of up to 660 cubic centimeters. It is expected that the new inexpensive car, which will likely have rear-wheel drive, will be comparable in size to the compact "i" hatchback and will be equipped with a 1.0-liter gasoline engine. Details about the model have not yet been disclosed.
It is worth noting that earlier, the Renault-Nissan alliance, as well as Toyota, General Motors, Ford, and Volkswagen, have already announced plans to release affordable cars. Currently, the cheapest car in the world remains the Tata Nano, which costs 2.5 thousand dollars on the Indian market.
