According to estimates by specialists from the UK, in 2018 just over 86 million new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold worldwide. As specified, this figure turned out to be 420 thousand units, or 0.5%, lower than a year earlier.
At the same time, analysts also recorded another increase in interest in SUV-class cars, which confirms that the popularity of this segment is not a temporary fad, but a stable trend that continues to attract buyers on all continents.
In 2018, a record number of SUVs and crossovers were sold — 29.8 million units, which is 7% higher than in 2017. Thus, the share of SUVs amounted to 36% of all global passenger car sales.
The top ten most sought-after models of 2018, according to JATO Dynamics, included the following cars:
Ford F-Series — 1,076,153 units; Toyota Corolla — 934,348 units; Honda Civic — 812,767 units; Toyota RAV4 — 807,116 units; Nissan X-Trail — 771,145 units; Honda CR-V — 736,471 units; Volkswagen Golf — 731,561 units; Volkswagen Passat — 660,453 units; Chevrolet Silverado — 650,654 units; Honda HR-V — 646,144 units.
