New plug-in hybrids received the TFSI e designation, an electro-hydraulic braking system, and the ability to travel up to 40 kilometers on electric power in the WLTP cycle.
Depending on the equipment level, the Audi A8, A7 Sportback, A6, and Q5 offer two powertrain operating modes: more economical or more dynamic. For the latter, special suspension settings are also available. All hybrids are equipped with turbocharged gasoline engines, an electric motor integrated into the transmission, and a battery pack with a capacity of 14.1 kilowatt-hours.

During braking, the "green" models can recuperate up to 80 kilowatts of energy. During gentle deceleration, only the electric motor operates; during moderate deceleration, braking forces are distributed between the motor and the hydraulic system. During intense deceleration, after -0.4 g, only hydraulics are used.
The powertrain of the A8, A7 Sportback, A6, and Q5 from the TFSI e line can operate in three modes: electric EV, combined Auto, and Hold, which maintains the current battery charge. Based on navigation data, the system can build an optimal driving profile and notify the driver to take their foot off the accelerator pedal to save fuel (using visual notifications and haptic feedback).
A compact charging system is part of the equipment of Audi plug-in hybrids. Additionally, owners can charge their cars at high-speed terminals of the e-tron Charging Service.
