At the same time, in quantitative terms, this indicator almost coincides with the data of June 2007 – the time when the crisis in the economy had not yet reached the automotive industry. In other words, this is the best result over the past ten years.
Last month, the key car markets of the European Union showed extremely uneven dynamics. For example, Italy and Spain demonstrated an increase in the number of registrations of new passenger cars: plus 12.9% and plus 6.5%, respectively. In France, a slight rise of 1.6% was also noted. But in Germany and the UK, on the contrary, there was a decline – by 4.8% and 3.5%, respectively.
Special attention deserves the high activity of the new states that are part of the European Union (+12.0%), which made a significant contribution to the overall statistics of the region.
The largest car market in the EU remains Germany: in a month, 327,693 passenger cars were sold here.
The second place in this list is occupied by the UK, where 243,454 cars were bought in June.
France closes the top three, with sales reaching 230,926 cars.
Among European manufacturers, the first place, as usual, is held by VW Group, which sold 344,892 cars in the European market and showed growth of 2.7% compared to June last year.
The second position is retained by Renault Group, which sold 184,170 cars – this is 2.8% more than in June 2016.
The third result in terms of the number of cars sold is demonstrated by PSA Group, which sold 153,929 units of equipment (an increase of +4%).
In general, for the first half of 2017, 8,210,921 vehicles were registered in the European Union, which is 4.7% higher than the figure for the same period last year. Almost all leading European markets contributed to the overall growth: Italy added 8.9%, Spain – 7.1%, Germany – 3.1%, France – 3.0%. The only exception was the UK, where sales decreased by 1.3 percent.
