Compared to 2019, when 160,675 accidents were registered, the number of road accidents increased by about 5% last year. At the same time, on sections where automatic speed cameras operate, the accident rate decreased threefold.

In 26,140 incidents, people were injured. Over the past year, 3,541 people died on Ukrainian roads, and 31,974 were injured. For comparison: in 2019, there were fewer fatalities — 3,454, but more injured — 32,736.

Oleksiy Biloshytskyi also noted that 7,641 accidents involving pedestrians were recorded — 1,198 dead and 6,959 injured, 1,768 accidents with cyclists — 235 dead and 1,610 injured, as well as 4,432 cases involving children — 168 dead and 3,957 injured.

The main causes of accidents in Ukraine in 2020:

  • exceeding the permitted and safe speed;
  • violations during maneuvering;
  • violations of intersection crossing rules;
  • violations of pedestrian crossing rules;
  • violation of safe distance.
