The market is returning to the level of the 90s. There is a noticeable strong division in sales of middle-class cars and an increase in the share of the rich and the poor.

If you look at the statistics, it looks like this: the overall decline in sales of new passenger cars was -35% (for 4 months of 2014), while for the most affordable (Low Cost) sales fell by 31% (less than the overall decline), in the middle price category (Volume) the reduction was -38% (more than the average), the Premium segment -31% (again less than the average).

The result is obvious: the share of affordable cars (Low Cost) increased from 44% to 46%, the share of Premium cars increased from 6.3% to 6.7%, and the share of cars in the middle price range (Volume) decreased from 50% to 47%.

Last month, this trend of market stratification only intensified. The share of expensive cars reached 8%, and the share of the middle price range decreased to 42%, while inexpensive budget cars grabbed a share of 50%. And this is only for one month!

The stratification of the vehicle market is not the only problem in our market, writes AUTO-Consulting. The decline in sales of new cars affected the activity of the used car market. In April, there was also a decline here – 24.5%. Nevertheless, the number of transactions for used cars exceeded 25 thousand units and became a record. Moreover, this is two and a half times more than in the new car market, where about 10 thousand units were sold in April.
