The prototype with the index P4 will feature two developments — Guardian and Chauffer. The first system is designed to "assist the driver rather than replace him." Apparently, this is a set of auxiliary functions with elements of semi-autonomous control.
The Chauffer mode, in turn, provides fully autonomous driving that does not require human participation. The technical equipment includes a LIDAR laser rangefinder with eight sensors, two video cameras, and a number of additional sensors.
The concept is also equipped with a more powerful computer, allowing it to react faster to the situation, make precise decisions, and more effectively absorb the necessary algorithms for self-learning.
The official presentation of the self-driving Lexus LS is scheduled for January 7 as part of the CES consumer electronics exhibition, which will be held in Las Vegas.
