When creating the special version, BMW engineers worked closely with specialists from the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science. For the interior design, the so-called Widmanstätten structure with a geometrically regular arrangement of elements was created, which can be seen on a cut of a real meteorite.

The interior of the coupe, named Night Sky, was decorated with special particles that replicate the structure of meteorites. The central console, engine start button, upper part of the automatic transmission selector, iDrive system controller, and door sills are inlaid with special crystals. In addition, special LEDs imitating the starry sky were used in the design of the central armrest cover.
The BMW M850i Night Sky also received unique brake mechanisms with 3D-printed calipers that are 30% lighter than standard counterparts.
