Nissan claims that the new powertrain outperforms even the latest Formula 1 developments in terms of specific power. It's no surprise that engineers are eager to test it in marathon races — successful results will allow them to start working on a version for regular roads.

How the Japanese managed to "house" 400 horsepower in a three-cylinder 1.5-liter unit remains a mystery even to specialists. A special turbocharging system played a key role, and maximum revs reach 7,500 per minute — a quite respectable result for such a displacement.

The engine's weight gives developers no less reason for pride. Just 40 kilograms — such a unit can be lifted by a single mechanic without special equipment. Moreover, the creators joke, it can be easily checked in as luggage at the airport.

Earlier we already told about the ZEOD RC variant for Le Mans, but at that time Nissan planned to put an exclusively electric car on the track.
