In 2022, Ukraine recorded a significant reduction in the number of road traffic accidents — the figure fell by a third. The Patrol Police consider the main factor for this improvement to be the lower road load under martial law.

During five months, 5,407 accidents occurred in the country. This is 33.7% less compared to the same period last year, when the number of accidents reached 8,152. These data were published by the first deputy head of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Biloshytskyi.

The department explains that the decrease in accidents is due to reduced traffic during the war. At the same time, law enforcement officers draw attention to the fact that dismantled road signs and arranged artificial obstacles sometimes provoked serious incidents.

The most common causes of accidents in Ukraine in 2022:

·Driving at excessive or unsafe speed — 45% of accidents in which people were injured or killed

·Failure to comply with maneuvering rules — 20%

·Violation of intersection crossing rules

·Violation of pedestrian crossing rules

·Violation of safe distance

·Driving under the influence of alcohol
