Head of the National Police Ihor Klymenko, during a special marathon dedicated to the Day of Unity, reported a sharp decrease in accidents in the country.
"On Monday and Tuesday, the number of road accidents decreased by 46%. For the first time in a long time, in a country with a population of 40 million, not a single death in accidents was recorded yesterday. The day before, one person died. For comparison, over the same two-day period a week earlier, 13 people became victims of road accidents", he stated.
The National Police also reminded of the statistics: last year, 5,019 accidents involving drunk drivers occurred in Ukraine, in which 113 people died and 1,072 were injured. In 2021, patrol officers detained 133,289 drivers with signs of alcohol or drug intoxication, while in 2020 this figure was 129,480. Since the beginning of this year, 6,567 cases of drunk driving have already been recorded.
