We are talking about the so-called Berlin cushions (Berlin Kissen) – artificial bumps of pyramidal shape. Unlike ordinary speed bumps, such barriers do not block the entire width of the road, but only its central part. Thus, their task is to stop reckless drivers in cars – public transport and other vehicles with a wide track will be able to pass through such cushions without hindrance, without discomfort for passengers.

The implementation of Berlin cushions was assigned to the municipal enterprise "Specialized Installation and Maintenance Unit". First of all, they will be installed on Derevyanko Square, which has long been favored by local street racers. As the publication Dumskaya notes, residents of nearby houses have repeatedly complained that racers regularly disturb their peace in the evenings and at night. In addition, accidents very often occur on this section because of them. As a result, the municipal department of transport, communications and traffic management decided to install new-type barriers – for now as an experiment.
By the way, Berlin cushions first appeared in the capital of Germany, which explains their name. However, such speed bumps are common not only in Germany, but also in other countries of Western and Northern Europe.
