An emergency occurred during the daytime on the Tohoku Expressway in the northern Miyagi Prefecture. It was caused by a snowstorm – as local media report, due to poor visibility and bad road grip, drivers did not have time to brake and one after another collided with the vehicle in front.

It is noteworthy that with the onset of snowfall, the authorities introduced a speed limit of 50 km/h, but this did not save the situation.

In total, about 200 people were injured in the road traffic accident, 12 of them were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. The accident blocked traffic on the highway for more than a day.
