The head of Volkswagen's American division, Hinrich Woebcken, said that the company has lost interest in selling diesel cars in the United States, as their demand in this market has exhausted itself.

Starting from 2017, sales of diesel versions of the Golf, Jetta, Passat, Beetle, and Touareg models will be completely discontinued. At the same time, other brands within the concern will continue to supply their diesel cars to the US for now.

The main factor influencing this decision was the diesel engine scandal that broke out last year. It seriously undermined the brand's reputation in America and ultimately cost the German manufacturer 15 billion dollars.
