The Japanese automaker, as BBC reports, has already formed an independent commission to investigate the circumstances of the incident.

It is assumed that data manipulation was discovered at Nissan, for which Mitsubishi, in turn, conducted fuel efficiency tests. In total, inaccurate fuel consumption data may relate to 157 thousand Mitsubishi cars, as well as to 468 thousand Nissan vehicles.

After the fact of violations was recognized, trading in Mitsubishi shares ended with a 15% drop in quotes — this value corresponded to the level of 2004. It is expected that on Wednesday evening, the company's president, Tetsuro Aikawa, will speak to journalists at a press conference dedicated to this issue.
