Reuters news agency reports that in the event of a guilty verdict, the automaker may have to pay a fine of up to $80 billion. However, as a representative of the Ministry of Justice notes, the likelihood that the court will impose the maximum possible punishment is low. Apparently, the final amount will be significantly less, but in any case, it will be in the billions.

450 experts, including employees of the American law firm Jones Day, are working to clarify the circumstances related to violations in the exhaust emissions of Volkswagen diesel cars.

The manufacturer itself expects to complete its own checks already in April. It is worth recalling that the diesel scandal began in the fall of 2015, when the United States stated that Volkswagen used software that understated the real indicators of harmful emissions.
