The only Mitsubishi car assembly line at the plant in Illinois will be shut down as early as November this year. According to company representatives, the reason for stopping production was low sales in the American market. Nevertheless, the Japanese are not going to leave North America altogether.

It is worth noting that the plant produced only one model, the Outlander Sport crossover, known in Europe as the ASX. After the plant is stopped, the car of the next model year will be supplied to the USA from Japan.

Brief reference: The American car assembly plant of Mitsubishi was launched in 1988 as part of a joint project with the Chrysler corporation. Two years later, the Japanese became the sole owners of the plant. The enterprise reached its maximum capacity of 222 thousand produced cars in 2000. But by 2009, production volumes had fallen to 185 thousand cars per year, and according to the results of last year, only 69,178 thousand cars were produced.
