As practice has shown, the Tesla Model S with its impressive range is capable of covering such a route. True, Glinie had certain doubts about this.

The journey from Newark to Somerset is 293 miles (468 km). For the Model S, this distance is almost the limit. Nevertheless, when the electric car reached the charging station, it still had 11 miles (about 17 km) of range left. In an emergency, the car could have been charged from a regular outlet, but that would have taken a long time, and the very idea of the trip ruled out such a scenario.

This experiment showed that the network of free Supercharger stations in America is already sufficiently developed for traveling across the country in an electric car. 62-year-old Joe Glinie, together with his 26-year-old daughter Jill, covered a total of 3,400 miles (5,400 km), charting a route from New York to Los Angeles for other owners of such cars.

The entire journey took them five days, during which they crossed 16 states and used the services of 28 Supercharger stations. At the same time, they did not have to pay for energy, which allowed them to save a significant amount compared to a trip in a gasoline-powered car.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk approvingly commented on the successful completion of this venture, noting that the Supercharger charging infrastructure is now available to 80% of US residents. A similar network is already being created in Europe, so soon Europeans will also be able to afford free travel in electric cars.
