The compact show car is based on the Scala hatchback and is named after the bicycles produced in 1895 by Laurin&Klement, which eventually became the company Skoda. The concept's design borrows some features from the Skoda 1100 OHC prototype of 1957.

Under the hood of the Slavia is a standard 1.5-liter turbo engine with 150 hp, which works in tandem with a 7-speed DSG "robot". In addition, the chassis, all electronics, and driver assistance systems are borrowed from the Scala.

The concept project was developed by a team of 31 students from the Skoda Academy. The final version of the roadster's design was approved personally by Skoda's chief designer Oliver Stefani.

Skoda Slavia has become the seventh such project involving students. Last year, students developed the Mountiaq crossover based on the Kodiaq model.
