According to available information, the company is already discussing a more compact and budget-friendly new model, which will be based on the MEB platform used in the electric hatchback Volkswagen ID.3.

The alliance formed by Volkswagen and Ford this year was initially aimed at jointly creating commercial vehicles. However, by summer, the manufacturers announced an expansion of cooperation: Ford gets the opportunity to use the modular electric architecture MEB, on which its own electric vehicle for the European market will appear by 2023. It remains unclear whether this will be a variant close to the Mustang Mach-E or a completely different model.

Auto Express magazine, citing the words of Ford's global head of electrification, Ted Cannis, reports that the "junior" version of the Mustang Mach-E will also be built on the MEB basis. Due to the design features of this platform, the car's profile will not be as dynamic as that of the older model, but it will "definitely be a crossover." The new model may be offered with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, with powertrains of various power and several battery options. At the same time, whether this model will be named Mustang will become clear only after assessing the success of the Mach-E.
