The point here is not at all that Volkswagen lacks access to any serious technologies that other brands of the concern are allowed to use. Of course, this is purely a matter of positioning. Although the Golf GTI has rightfully been considered the founder of the entire class of "hot" hatchbacks since 1975, other Volkswagen models could not boast such a charismatic image. However, the situation may change soon. As Scott Keogh, head of Volkswagen's American division, told Motor Authority, the German brand's model lineup must definitely include truly exciting cars.
One might assume he was talking about the familiar "hot" GTI and R versions of the new-generation Golf hatchback, whose debut is just around the corner, but the president of Volkswagen Group of America made it clear that it would be good to also release a sporty crossover, which are currently in huge demand worldwide. Modern hybrid and electric technologies could make Volkswagens more attractive to car enthusiasts — the main thing is that they do not raise the price of future models to a level where they lose their appeal to the brand's buyers.
