The car is built on the new Premium Transverse Architecture platform, which allows the vehicle to be equipped with both conventional internal combustion engines and hybrid powertrains based on a 48-volt on-board network. The same chassis is used by the second-generation Range Rover Evoque. The length of the new model is 4597 mm (-2 mm), width is 2173 mm, and height is 727 mm (+3 millimeters). The wheelbase size remains unchanged at 2741 millimeters. The new model features a modernized suspension with a 212-millimeter ground clearance and the Adaptive Dynamics system, which improves the vehicle's handling and maneuverability.

After the facelift, the Discovery Sport has changed slightly in appearance. The car received new bumpers, a different radiator grille, and modified LED headlights. Even in the base version, the crossover is equipped with a 10.25-inch display and an upgraded Touch Pro multimedia system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The engine lineup for the global market includes 2.0-liter petrol and diesel units. Engine power ranges from 150 to 250 horsepower. All versions of the crossover except the base one operate on the "mild hybrid" MHEV scheme with a 48-volt starter-generator. The Discovery Sport is also equipped with a nine-speed ZF automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

In addition, the crossover features the Terrain Response 2 system, previously debuted on the flagship Range Rover, which automatically recognizes the type of surface under the wheels and activates the corresponding vehicle settings.
