The new Outback is built on the modular Subaru Global Platform (SGP). The use of this chassis has increased torsional rigidity by 70%. The new design is also capable of absorbing 40% more energy in a frontal or side collision.
Instead of a six-cylinder engine, the new Outback will be equipped with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 264 hp and 375 Nm. In addition, the engine lineup retains a 2.5-liter unit developing 185 hp and 240 Nm. Both engines are paired with a CVT and all-wheel drive system.
The new generation Outback has not changed much in appearance. The wagon is equipped with LED headlights, additional body protection, and new alloy wheels. The ground clearance of the new model is 220 mm.

The equipment list includes the proprietary set of electronic assistants EyeSight, which includes an active lane-keeping assist system, driver fatigue monitoring, and blind spot monitoring. The model will be offered with a new media center controlled via an 11.6-inch vertical screen.
Sales of the new Subaru Outback are expected to start this fall, with prices to be announced later.
