Details about the future SUV are not yet disclosed. As Autocar writes, the new Land Rover Defender will be built on an aluminum platform. The car will take a significant portion of components and engineering solutions from the current Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) models. It is expected that the company will sell about 10,000 new Defenders annually.
Meanwhile, according to Motoring, buyers will be offered three- and five-door versions with open and closed bodies, a luxury version, as well as a variant intended for severe off-road use. The powertrain lineup is expected to consist of turbocharged two-liter four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, as well as three-liter V6 engines.
In addition, an electric modification will appear in the range. This version will get one electric motor and a battery pack. However, in the future, the appearance of a more powerful version of this "green" SUV is not ruled out.
Also worth waiting for is a pickup based on the Land Rover Defender. Earlier it was reported that such a vehicle is being considered as a rival to the Model X. The pickup's engine lineup will include petrol and diesel two-liter Ingenium family units. Most likely, the car will be sold only with a single cab. The model will get a wide range of versions, including richly equipped trims. Assembly of the pickup will be organized at a Slovak plant.
Production of the previous generation Land Rover Defender ended in January 2016. The British automaker has repeatedly stated plans to take the "old-timer" off the assembly line: initially, the production stop was scheduled for December 2015, but then the deadlines were shifted.
