The new solution, offered as part of an additional package with adaptive suspension, utilizes twelve precision sensors. These sensors are capable of recognizing road surface irregularities in advance, before the car's wheels encounter them.

When a pothole is detected, the electronic control unit instantly switches the relevant shock absorber to maximum stiffness mode. Thanks to this, the wheel does not sink deeply into the damage, thereby reducing the impact force when it exits the pothole. As a result, the likelihood of breakdowns is reduced and control over the vehicle is maintained.

In the British market, installing adaptive shock absorbers on the new Ford Focus will cost buyers 650 pounds sterling extra.
