The hot hatchback aims to beat the record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in the front-wheel-drive class.
The updated version of the Renault Megane RS Trophy will have a boosted 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine: its power will increase from 280 hp to 300 hp, and torque from 390 Nm to 400 Nm. The unit will be offered with both a six-speed manual gearbox and an EDC robotic transmission.
Unlike the regular Megane RS, the Trophy version will get different suspension settings, 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, and a revised aerodynamic kit including a modified rear spoiler and front diffuser. It is expected that the special version for the record attempt will be lightened by removing the rear seat, part of the interior trim, and sound insulation materials.
According to preliminary information, the public debut of the Renault Megane RS Trophy will take place in October 2018 at the Paris Motor Show, and the record run at the Nürburgring is planned immediately before or right after the premiere. Currently, the best time among front-wheel-drive cars on the Nordschleife is held by the Honda Civic Type R with 320 hp, which completed a lap in 7 minutes 43.8 seconds.
