“Today we presented the HDC-2 concept car, which helps trace the evolution of our design. We have taken a big step towards turning Hyundai into a brand that customers will perceive emotionally, and we want to become a company that people will truly love,” said Hyundai’s chief designer Sang-yup Lee.

The South Korean company has so far published only two images of the new model, which show that the car features a massive radiator grille and large wheels. It is possible that some design solutions will be used on the future production flagship crossover of the Hyundai brand.

Earlier, Hyundai introduced a new modification of the Tucson model, which received a powertrain based on a diesel unit using Mild Hybrid technology.

The two-liter 186-horsepower engine running on “heavy fuel” works together with a 12-kilowatt (16 hp) compact electric motor acting as a starter-generator, which in turn is powered by a 48-volt onboard electrical system based on a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 0.44 kilowatt-hours. The automaker noted that the use of the hybrid scheme allowed reducing average fuel consumption by 7%.
