The Polestar 1 coupe presented in Shanghai is styled after the slightly forgotten Volvo Concept Coupe show car, which debuted back in 2013.

The model stretches 4.5 meters in length and is equipped with a hybrid powertrain with the ability to recharge from the mains.

The interior design of the four-seat coupe is not too different from the cabins of Volvo models, standing out only with different decorative materials and a new emblem on the steering wheel.

The car is built on the "Volvo" SPA platform, significantly refined by Polestar engineers. The main changes came to the suspension, which acquired the Ohlins CESi system with adaptive shock absorbers.

The hybrid setup combines a two-liter turbo engine and a pair of electric motors, together delivering an impressive 600 hp and 1000 Nm. On electric power alone, the coupe can cover a record 150 km for hybrids.

Production of the Polestar 1 model will be established at the Chinese plant in Chengdu, but the first examples will roll off the assembly line no earlier than 2019. The Swedish company plans to produce no more than 500 cars per year.
