The design of the future second-generation crossover was already outlined last year by the Volvo 40.1 concept (photo). The new model is based on the CMA platform, which the Swedes developed jointly with the Chinese company Geely, which today owns the brand.

Under the hood of the new-generation XC40, a fresh 1.5-liter turbo engine producing 180 horsepower will appear. This same engine will become the basis for the hybrid version. Also, for the crossover, a 240-horsepower unit, familiar from the XC90 model, will be provided.

The new XC40 will be assembled at two sites at once: at the Belgian plant in Europe and at one of Geely's enterprises in China.
