The Volkswagen Atlas is built on the modular MQB platform, which also underpins the new Tiguan. The model's length exceeds 5 meters, making the Atlas the largest crossover in the brand. The front end clearly echoes the design of the updated Amarok pickup, while the rear hints at similarities with some American SUVs.

The three-row interior of the Atlas is executed in a "corporate" style and boasts a fully digital instrument cluster, as well as a multimedia system ready to "befriend" almost any smartphone.

The initial lineup of powertrains will consist of two gasoline engines. The base will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 238 hp, offered for the front-wheel-drive version. The all-wheel-drive modification will receive a 280-hp 3.6-liter VR6. Both options are exclusively equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Volkswagen Atlas will be produced at the American plant in Chattanooga. The crossover's entry into the European market is still a big question.
