The premiere of the new model is scheduled for 2017, and its main rival, according to forecasts, will be the Audi Q1, which, as is known, will appear at dealers already in spring 2016.
The subcompact called Urban Cross promises to stand out with its memorable appearance and will deviate from BMW's usual practice of assigning digital indices to models.

It is logical to assume that the basis of the small BMW SUV will be the front-wheel-drive UKL platform, already familiar from the Active Tourer of the second series. The main engine for the new model will be a gasoline engine with three cylinders and a displacement of one and a half liters, producing 136 hp. For comparison: the Q1's range of power units starts with a 1.0 TFSI turbo-three with 95 hp. Of course, the lineup will also include more powerful modifications, the upper limit of which will reach 230 hp.

Why did BMW need a subcompact crossover? Firstly, the MINI Countryman will become larger after a change of generations. Secondly, the Bavarians are not at all embarrassed that their own models may overlap in the lineup. They are confident: this approach simplifies luring customers away from competitors, and in the end, the profit will still be in their hands...
