SEAT has decided to abandon its previous approach, where one model was supposed to meet all customer needs, and instead plans to release a new generation Leon in several body styles. The brand's management believes that having three different versions of this model on the market will significantly expand the pool of potential customers.
"We are addressing the new Leon to different customer categories," SEAT's chief designer Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos told Autocar. "We are making the five-door hatchback for a family audience that needs a dynamic yet spacious car. The three-door version with a shortened wheelbase will have a more sporty character, with a sloping roofline in the style of a coupe, although structurally it will remain a hatchback. As for the station wagon, its main advantages are a large trunk and practicality."
The new generation Leon is expected to be shown to the public in the fall at the Paris Motor Show. In early March, at the Geneva exhibition, the Spanish brand will present the new Toledo sedan, and in Beijing there will be premieres of special versions of the current-generation Leon and the updated Ibiza, created specifically for the Chinese market. In addition, in the spring SEAT will begin European sales of the compact Mii model and the restyled Ibiza.
