The Czech automaker patented the name Smoov at the beginning of the year. It is expected that this index will appear in the official list of the brand's models already in 2014.
Currently, the Skoda lineup has only one full-fledged SUV — the compact Yeti, as well as the Octavia Combi Scout station wagon (we don't count the passenger Fabia Scout and Roomster Scout). Obviously, this line lacks a continuation, and the new Smoov, based on a platform shared with the Audi Q3, should become it. The new model's overall length is 4.5 meters (for comparison: Yeti — 4.22 meters), and its rivals are predicted to be the Hyundai ix35, Kia Sportage, Nissan Qashqai, and other representatives of this class.
The Smoov will also have a "relative" within the Volkswagen Group — the next generation Tiguan. It will be built on the same architecture and, most likely, will share some body panels with the Czech model. True, Skoda will get by with more modest powertrains (without hybrid setups), and the options list will focus on front-wheel drive, although all-wheel drive will also be offered. It also became known that the Superb Scout project is temporarily frozen — so that it doesn't compete with the recently released Passat Alltrack SUV.
