As of today, the register of court decisions records 16 accidents involving electric scooter drivers that were classified as administrative offenses. However, there are also cases that reached criminal liability: three such cases are listed in the database, and in two of them, the court imposed fines exceeding UAH 100,000.

In the first of these incidents, a woman was riding a scooter while carrying a child, which is strictly prohibited, and collided with another female pedestrian. The victim sustained moderate injuries and required hospital treatment. The court found the scooter driver guilty of the incident, sentencing her to one year of probation and ordering her to pay UAH 112,600 as compensation for health damages and an additional UAH 23,000 for moral damages. In addition, she had to cover half of the court costs.

In the second case, fault was attributed to a scooter driver who hit a girl on a bicycle. In this incident, the victim also sustained moderate injuries. The scooter driver was fined UAH 3,400 and also ordered to pay UAH 37,216 for material damages and UAH 70,000 for moral damages.

The material from Opendatabot notes that as the number of electric scooters grows, so does the number of accidents involving them, and the amounts of penalties for traffic violations are also increasing. For example, a year ago, drivers of such vehicles were fined UAH 350 for similar violations, but now it is UAH 850. In most accidents, scooter drivers are issued a protocol under Article 124 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which provides for liability for violating traffic rules that resulted in damage to vehicles, cargo, roads, streets, crossings, road structures, or other property. In other words, they are considered full participants in road traffic.
