Now such a name of law enforcement bodies as "militsiya" should become a thing of the past.

In the first reading, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a number of bills defining the reform of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It was supported by 245 parliamentarians with a required minimum of 226 votes. The document should lay the foundation for building a new law enforcement service in light of the ongoing reform of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"The bill on internal affairs bodies legally defines the status of the Ministry as a civilian one, forms state policy in the relevant direction, as well as the legal and organizational framework for the activities of central executive bodies in the sphere of internal affairs," stated the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov during the presentation of this project in parliament.

The bill defines the new structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: the Ministry itself, executive bodies, the National Police, and the National Guard of Ukraine.

According to the regulations, in the Verkhovna Rada, proposals and amendments to this bill must be accepted within 14 days. After that, it must be submitted for reconsideration in parliament. If the law is adopted, it may come into force as early as June 1, 2015.
