Ford Mustang Mach-E recently entered the American and European markets (at the beginning of the year), and BBC automotive journalist Paul Clifton, along with his co-drivers Fergal McGrath and Kevin Booker, decided to test the new model's efficiency and also find out whether modern electric vehicles in the form of such a Mustang can compete with petrol or diesel cars for long-distance travel. To do this, they undertook a 1,352-kilometer journey in the car – from the village of John o' Groats in Scotland to Land's End in England.

They decided to drive at night when there are no traffic jams on the roads. In addition, the driving was as economical as possible – without sharp accelerations, with the air conditioning turned off, windows closed, and the media system disabled. As a result, over the entire time, the team stopped only twice to charge, spending a total of 45 minutes. The whole trip took 27 hours.

The average energy consumption during the trip for the Ford Mustang Mach-E was only 10.5 km/1 kWh, thanks to which the electric crossover even made it into the Guinness Book of Records, and the range on a single charge was 800 km. For context, the official range of such a Mustang (the version participating in the run was the Mach-E Extended Range RWD with a single 292 hp motor and an 88-kWh battery) is 610 km according to the WLTP cycle and 491 km according to the EPA cycle (the latter is considered more realistic).

"This record demonstrates that electric vehicles are now suitable for any task: not only for short city trips to work or shops, or as a second car, but also for long journeys... The tipping point has arrived," Clifton commented on the achievement.
