The closest rival – the Fiat 500 electric car – was beaten by Toyota Yaris by as many as 26 points (266 vs 240). Accordingly, Fiat took 2nd place. As jury member Frank Janssen noted during the winners announcement broadcast on YouTube, the Japanese subcompact hatchback was helped to win by a combination of eco-friendly hybrid engines and a sporty character, as well as the presence of the hot GR Yaris version.
