American dealerships have announced their readiness to re-accept 2019 model year vehicles whose owners complained about malfunctions in the brake system electronics.

In December 2019, 550,000 units of these models that came off the assembly line in 2019 were sent for repair. Earlier, there were reports of a risk of emergency braking, ABS, and stability control systems shutting down, with no information about the malfunction displayed on the instrument panel.

During the recall campaign, the firmware of the brake system electronic control unit was updated on the cars, but this triggered a new wave of complaints from owners who claim the situation has worsened. They report numerous system failures after activating the remote engine start function via the OnStar app, as well as warning indicators lighting up to signal an error.

GM has apologized to customers who will have to visit a service center again for reinstallation of the software and guaranteed that the defect will be fixed free of charge.
